You could literally spend hours researching what should be on your bucket list. And, I’d know this, because I recently spent a whole day interrupting my colleagues asking, ‘they want to bungee jump into the Grand Canyon’ and ‘how cool would flying first class be?’
Everybody has somewhere they’d love to visit! Behind each destination, there’s usually a story. My story is simple; it’s taken from my favourite Disney film, Mulan. From the age of five, I’ve always been fascinated with the cherry blossom bloom, and I’d love to visit China to see this. But, I figured, why settle for one place? Here are nine more you should definitely add to your ever-extending bucket list:
- Catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights
Dancing in the night sky, the green glow from the Aurora Belt isn’t like anything I’ve ever experienced before. The best time to see this natural phenomenon can be tricky to predict. So, team up seeking out the northern lights with an exciting city break to Reykjavik where you can take a dip in one of the many thermal pools.
- Discover the ancient ruins in Tulum
Known as the Mayan City of Tulum, these Mexican ruins were once a powerful city. Today, this UNESCO World Heritage site can be accessed through one of five wall doors. Take time to wander around the fortress before being blown away by the spectacular views of the Caribbean ocean.
- Barter in the souks of Marrakech
Around every cobbled corner of Marrakech, you’ll find a maze of stalls selling everything imaginable. Navigate through a labyrinth of spices, shiny trinkets and Moroccan slippers – known as a babouche. The magical atmosphere continues with interesting displays from street performers, snake charmers and fortune tellers.
- Visit 100 UNESCO World Heritage Sites
Why stop at visiting the Mayan City of Tulum, when there are thousands of UNESCO World Heritage Sites to explore? Add places like the Grand Canyon, Pyramids of Giza, Stonehenge or Notre Dame Cathedral to your list. Tailor what to do on your next trip based around the World Heritage Sites in that destination.
- Drink beer at Oktoberfest
I went to Octoberfest in Munich for the first time this year and it was a serious celebration! I dressed traditionally in a dirndl dress, which was embroidered with red and yellow flowers. If you consider yourself a foodie, love to dance and want to try a stein of beer, this is definitely one to add to the bucket list.
6. Make a wish in the Trevi Fountain
Legend has it, if you throw a coin from your right hand over your left shoulder into the Trevi Fountain, it’ll ensure your return to Rome in the future. So get your cents at the ready and make your wish at this incredible attraction in the Italian capital.
- See the Sahara Desert
Team up your trip to Tunisia with a guided tour to the Sahara Desert. The Sahara Desert is Arabic for ‘The Great Desert’ and fully deserves its name as it covers large sections of North Africa including Morocco and Egypt.
8. Explore the Green Grotto Caves
The Green Grotto Caves are an incredible natural attraction to explore if you’re travelling to Jamaica. These mystical underground caverns hold tales of the past and are a real beauty to see. With unique rock formations and water flowing from the depths of the cave, it’ll be like nothing you’ve ever seen before.
9. Stay up all night in Las Vegas
You haven’t experienced Las Vegas until you’ve stayed up all night, sipping on cocktails and taking in the atmosphere at one of the many casinos. But, there’s more to the city than just gambling. See a spectacular show, take a trip to the Grand Canyon or spend hours exploring all the fabulous hotels along the city’s famous strip.
